1618318_1484340021798168_7204773491448419722_oAs the Lanikai Get Off Ya Couch Tour rolled into Australia’s country music heartland Tamworth, the Cairns Ukulele Festival announced it’s 2014 world record song. The song, “Dance the Night Away” by The Mavericks, is an upbeat tex mex style song from 1998 with which The Mavericks hit the top of the charts around the world. “The two-chord song is cheerful, easy to learn, and gets people into a great mood instantly. Whenever the local ukulele group Bad Boys and Girls of Uke break out into this song, the crowd goes wild and starts dancing in the street”, says Cairns Ukulele Festival director Gaby Thomasz. “We expect nothing less at this year’s world record attempt ‘Largest Ukulele Ensemble’”. The song will be played at the festival in the key of C. For the original music video, links to chord sheets, please visit the festival web site.

Registrations for this year’s world record attempt open next week.
